Generally one use finished candles. Sometimes you can get very cheap ones but unfortunately you’ll never know the exact mixture or the melting point. Type 54C from www.candlecraftcenter.com is the most suitable.

Some candles have to be cut with a knife into very tiny pieces whereas the rest has to be melted.

Remember to tense the wick well; this will ameliorate the burning off!

Souse the candle cuttings with wax which has the right temperature. Don’t melt the cuttings with too hot wax. If you do so there won’t be any crunch effect.
